The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword takes place in Skyloft thousands of years before the original Zelda and tells the story of the original Triforce bearers. It’s an atypical Zelda game in structure, not least because it originally relied on motion controls for all Link’s combat when it first released on Nintendo Wii.

Those motion controls were often quite fiddly and unresponsive. Now, however, Nintendo has refined them for use with the Switch’s Joy-Con. The right Joy-Con controls Link’s sword, and in place of the Wii Nunchuk, the left Joy-Con controls his shield.

There’s a special set of Skyward Sword Joy-Con releasing alongside the game featuring the Hylian crest and Zelda logo.

For the first time, however, Skyward Sword finally has a button scheme that replaces motion controls for handheld mode and Nintendo Switch Lite users.

Skyward Sword on Switch releases July 16 as part of the Zelda 35th anniversary celebrations.
