For those eyeing up the best tablets (opens in new tab) out there right now, the Apple iPad Mini (opens in new tab) has always been worth paying attention to. Right now, there are conflicting rumors about whether the smaller tablet will have a Mini LED display upgrade like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has or not. That’s the thinking from industry analyst Ross Young (opens in new tab), who has previously been fairly accurate when it comes to what to expect from new Apple products in the past.  He’s supposedly checked with sources in the supply chain and has found that while Mini LED technology is very appealing thanks to offering improved brightness, color, and contrast, it might not be making its way to the relatively inexpensive iPad Mini just yet. However, a conflicting report from DigiTimes (paywalled, reported by MacRumors (opens in new tab)) has suggested the exact opposite and that news comes from well known Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, so we’ll have to wait and see.  In the meantime, if you’re passionate about a Mini LED screen, you’ll need to commit to the outstanding iPad Pro (opens in new tab) instead. More promising news in the Apple rumor mill is that the MacBook Pro 16-inch could be much cooler than ever before, while still offering a more powerful GPU and potentially more RAM. Clearly vying for a place in our hearts as one of the best laptops (opens in new tab) out there for power users, a report from LeaksApplePro (opens in new tab)  suggests a new more powerful GPU is on the way and that 64GB of RAM may also be exclusive to this model. To help out there, it’ll also employ a single-piece cooling solution to keep things running efficiently.  It’s the kind of thing that the souped up MacBook Pro could certainly do with to make it a bit more potent compared to the standard MacBook Pro.  Finally, for home computer (opens in new tab) use, there are suggestions that Apple could be launching a new external display to add to the Pro Display XDR it already offers. That monitor could be running its own A13 Bionic chip along with its own Neural Engine - the technology we already see on Apple tablets and the iPhone 11 (opens in new tab). It’s another rumor that comes via 9to5Mac (opens in new tab) from “sources familiar with the matter”  so it’s all far from confirmed but it could mean some substantial onboard processing for such monitors, with the idea being that it might adjust colors, contrast, brightness and more all in real time rather than be dependent on the hardware it’s hooked up to. The Apple Pro Display XDR already costs $4,999 so expect any new monitor to be very pricey if it does happen. For now, of course, all this is rumor and theory so we’ll have to wait and see closer to September or October time when Apple is likely to make some official announcements.
