Microsoft’s official reasons are unknown

Right now there isn’t a clear reason from Microsoft as to why they won’t be standing out at the 2015 Tokyo Game Show. It seems like a poor plan, as the Xbox won’t be exhibited properly without them, but they hopefully have some other plans for this region of the world.

Masayuki Inoue from Microsoft Japan’s marketing group stated that:

You might think that Microsoft has just given up on their Japan sales, but they recently slashed their Xbox One price in China and Japan to reach more consumers:

“This year, Microsoft will not exhibit the Tokyo Game Show, but we’re making various preparations to deliver the latest Xbox news to fans and media. We will provide an update as soon as we can.” - Masayuki Inoue

For an Xbox One Kinect Bundle in China, the price has been reduced by RMB 500 from the price, making it RMB 4299 ($693 USD). For the Xbox One without the Kinect the price was originally RMB 3699 reduced to RMB 2999 ($483 USD).

In Japan Microsoft reduced the Xbox One by ¥5,000 ($41 USD), in hopes of making their product more appealing. It might seem like a small reduction, but when you’re gaming every savings matters.

These price reductions are Microsoft’s attempt to attract more customers for their product, but by not making an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show they may be sabotaging themselves.
